Kerala Flood Relief and Rebuild Efforts - Smt Ajithakumari V G (FR11)

"Manava Seva Madhava Seva"

Dear NSSONA Family Members,

Hoping that everybody had a relaxing long weekend with family. Wanted to share yet another project we successfully completed in Thrissur district for Smt Ajithakumari V G and family.

Smt Ajithakumari lost her husband a year and a half ago to a fatal heart attack. They are stretched for any income after her husband's death as she lives with her son, Anandhu, a class XII student and her 85 year old mother. As part of the Kerala floods that affected the Thrissur district area, Smt Ajithakumar's house was severly struck with the floods causing damages to their bathroom and septic tank which was situated outside their house.

Smt Ajithakumar's mother used to walk with a chair for support from their home to the toilet outside.

NSSONA Charity team worked with the local NSS Karayogam from Kuttumukku, Thrissur and thereby identified a small space in their current house towards building a small bathroom for them while helping with repairs of the septic tank.

Thank you for your continued support. We welcome your feedback and suggestions. Please feel free to reach us at nssonacharity@gmail.com

Regards,
NSSONA Charity Team.

Kerala Flood Relief and Rebuild Efforts - Thampi and Vimala (FR12)

"Manava Seva Madhava Seva"

Dear NSSONA Family Members

Here is another project that we completed in Anapuzha, Thrissur district. As part of our continued flood relief work, we have successfully completed the repair of  Mr Thampi & Mrs Vimala’s home.

Their house was completely submerged in water up to the roof. Everything inside their home was destroyed including entire furniture, utensils and clothes and the house was left inhabitable. Mr.Thampi was a fisherman and the sole bread winner of the family until an accident left him disabled a year ago. He is severely injured to this day with dislocated bones which restricts his movements.

Currently the family has no reliable source of income. Mrs Vimala also suffers from health issues. The family is in severe financial crisis and is struggling to pay off the loan that was taken to build the house. MrThampi (67) and Mrs Vimala (54) have two daughters.

Thanks to our committed NSSONA community for helping Mr Thampi and family. Our continued efforts have enabled them move back to a livable home. A big shout to all our family members who have wholeheartedly supported this initiative and pledged with our NSSONA Charity Team to make a difference back home.

Regards,
NSSONA Charity Team

"Manava Seva Madhava Seva"

Dear NSSONA Families,

As we continue our efforts please meet Shri Rajagopalan Nair and his wife from Thalavady, Upper Kuttanadu, Alapuzzha district who were severely affected during the flood. Shri Rajagopalan Nair is the sole earning member of the family. He lives in a house that is no better than a shed. The kitchen does not have proper walls, and the family frequently sees snakes in their kitchen. The toilet is in the most pitiable state, built with tattered sheets and sacks.

Making matters worse, Shri. Rajagopalan Nair had to undergo a surgery to remove a kidney tumor. He has two boys studying in 12th and 10th grades respectively. Even after the surgery he is working as a mason’s asst to support the family.

This family of four sleeps in a single room, under a roof that could collapse at anytime. The work has been progressing steadily in regards to the rebuild. To make matters worse, in the flood, their home was half submerged in water.

Kerala Flood Relief and Rebuild Efforts - Radhakrishnan Pillai (FR3)

"Manava Seva Madhava Seva"

A huge thanks to our generous community who contributed towards our fundraising event through the NSSONA GoFundMe portal as well as through individual contributions during the Chicago Convention weekend. We have been liasing with local NSS karyogams, efficient volunteer groups, taluk union teams and with local residents in the flood affected areas.

We are pleased to inform that with all of your help as part of our flood relief rebuilding, we have began work to help deserving Nair families. One such family of many is Radhakrishnan Pillai and his wife, whose house in Kuttanadu had been severely affected by the flood.

Code for our project: FR3

Radhakrishnan Pillai is a fisherman. Recently, he had to sell his boat which was the families sole livelihood - for his wife's surgery. During the flood, the structure of his house receded into earth by three feet, leaving the house in a foot of water. Imagine waking out of your bed and stepping into water for the rest of the day! That is what this couple face on a daily basis.

How do we do it:

For FR3, we are collaborating with the local NSS karayogam  along with Pulimkunnu Enginneering College students who are whole heartedly supporting in this effort. The Engineering College Principal, who has a PhD in Structural Engineering is providing free technical guidance towards rebuilding their home.

We are humbled and proud of our community in regards to how we have collectively got together to light up the lives of many deserving Nair families.Thank you once again for your continued wholehearted support in rebuilding our motherland.
